1. Who We Are

Basket NZ is a free supermarket price comparison service for New Zealand shoppers. We compare prices across Woolworths, Pak'nSave and New World to help you save money on groceries.

2. What Data We Collect

Location Information

If you choose to share your location, we use it to find the nearest Woolworths, Pak'nSave and New World stores to you. Your location is used only to determine nearby stores and is not stored on our servers. Location access is entirely optional — you can skip it or enter your suburb manually.

Anonymous User ID

We generate a random anonymous ID (UUID) and store it in your browser's localStorage. This ID is never linked to your name, email or any personal information. It is used solely to:

• Track referral invites (to unlock the ad-free feature)
• Provide a consistent experience across sessions on the same device

Invite & Referral Records

When you share an invite link or are referred by another user, we record an entry in our database containing only the two anonymous user IDs involved (inviter and invitee) and the channel used (e.g. link, WhatsApp, email). No personal information is stored.

Shopping Basket

Your shopping basket and selected store location are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) only. This data never leaves your device.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

• Your name, email address or phone number
• Payment or financial information
• Precise GPS coordinates stored on our servers
• Browser history or cross-site tracking data
• Any data that identifies you personally

4. How We Use Your Data

The data we collect is used exclusively to:

• Display accurate supermarket prices for stores near you
• Track referral invites for the ad-free rewards programme
• Improve the reliability and performance of the app

We do not use your data for advertising profiling, and we do not sell, rent or share your data with third parties for commercial purposes.

5. Data Storage

Our backend database is hosted on Supabase, a secure cloud database platform. Data is stored in servers compliant with industry-standard security practices. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.

Your shopping basket and location preference are stored in your own browser's localStorage and remain on your device at all times.

6. Third-Party Services

Basket NZ uses the following third-party services:

• Supabase — database hosting for product prices and invite records
• Nominatim / OpenStreetMap — reverse geocoding to convert your GPS coordinates to a suburb name (no data retained)
• Google Fonts — for typography (subject to Google's privacy policy)
• Vercel — web hosting

7. Cookies & Local Storage

Basket NZ does not use tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage to save your:

• Anonymous user ID
• Selected store location
• Shopping basket contents

You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data or app storage.

8. Children's Privacy

Basket NZ is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

9. Your Rights

Since we do not collect personally identifiable information, there is no personal profile to access, correct or delete. If you wish to have any data associated with your anonymous ID removed from our systems, please contact us at ronpark.liu01@gmail.com with your anonymous ID (found in your browser's localStorage under the key basket_nz_user_id).

10. Applicable Region

Basket NZ is operated from and intended for users in New Zealand. By using this service, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Basket NZ after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
